LiTong Electronics is pleased to announce the opening of its new technical center in Shanghai, China. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant expansion of our technical support capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing advanced application engineering services closer to our customers in the world's largest electronics manufacturing hub.
Strategic Investment in Technical Excellence
The Shanghai technical center, located in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, represents a strategic investment of $5 million in expanding our technical support infrastructure. The 3,000 square meter facility houses advanced laboratories, application development areas, and customer demonstration spaces dedicated to supporting the design and implementation of EPCOS components in customer applications.
This new center brings our total technical support facilities to seven worldwide, including locations in Hong Kong, Munich, Tokyo, and San Jose. The Shanghai facility will serve as our primary technical hub for the Asia-Pacific region, supporting customers in China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
The center opens at a critical time as the Asia-Pacific region continues to drive global electronics manufacturing, accounting for over 70% of worldwide electronic component consumption. The facility positions LiTong to more effectively serve this growing market with local technical expertise.
Advanced Laboratory Capabilities
The center features three specialized laboratories equipped with advanced test equipment:
Component Characterization Lab
Equipped with precision LCR meters, impedance analyzers, and high-voltage test equipment for evaluating EPCOS capacitor and inductor performance. The lab includes capabilities for measuring ESR, ESL, Q-factor, insulation resistance, and dielectric strength across a wide frequency and temperature range.
Key equipment includes precision LCR meters capable of measurements from 20Hz to 3MHz, high-voltage test systems up to 10kV, and temperature chambers ranging from -55°C to +150°C. The lab supports both DC and AC measurements for comprehensive component evaluation.
EMC/EMI Test Facility
A fully equipped EMI/EMC laboratory with conducted and radiated emissions measurement capabilities, including pre-compliance testing services. The lab enables customers to evaluate filter designs and verify EMI performance before formal compliance testing.
Equipment includes spectrum analyzers, LISNs (Line Impedance Stabilization Networks), EMI receivers, and specialized antennas for radiated emissions testing. The facility supports compliance testing for various standards including CE marking, FCC, and automotive standards.
Thermal Analysis Lab
Specialized in thermal characterization and life testing of passive components, with capabilities for accelerated aging, thermal cycle testing, and thermal imaging. This lab is crucial for evaluating components for harsh automotive and industrial applications.
The thermal lab features multiple environmental chambers capable of temperature cycling from -40°C to +150°C, thermal cameras for hotspot detection, and systems for life testing components under various stress conditions. These capabilities are essential for evaluating the long-term performance of high-reliability applications.
Application Engineering Services
The center hosts a team of 20 specialized application engineers with expertise across major market segments. The team includes specialists in automotive, power electronics, telecommunications, and consumer electronics applications, ensuring appropriate technical support for customer's specific needs.
Services offered include:
- Circuit design reviews and simulation
- Component selection guidance
- Layout and placement recommendations
- Failure analysis and problem resolution
- Custom solution development
- Technical training and seminars
The center provides 24/5 technical support in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean, with translation services available for other languages. Critical design reviews and problem-solving sessions can be conducted virtually or on-site.
Customer Demonstration and Training Areas
The facility includes dedicated customer demonstration areas and a 50-seat training center for hosting technical seminars and workshops. These spaces are designed to facilitate knowledge transfer and provide hands-on experience with EPCOS components.
The demonstration areas showcase various application examples using EPCOS components, including reference designs for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. Interactive displays allow customers to explore technical specifications and performance characteristics.
The training center hosts regular seminars on topics including DC-link design, EMI filter design, automotive component selection, and power electronics design principles. The center also supports custom training sessions for specific customer needs.
Regional Impact and Growth Plans
The Shanghai center supports the rapid growth of electronics manufacturing in the region, particularly in emerging areas such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and 5G infrastructure. The center will initially support approximately 200 customer sites in the region.
Future growth plans include expanding the team to 35 engineers by 2025 and adding advanced capabilities for emerging technologies including GaN and SiC power devices, millimeter-wave applications, and automotive functional safety (ISO 26262) design.
The center also serves as a liaison between Asian customers and EPCOS development teams in Germany, facilitating direct communication and feedback for future product development. This relationship enables faster response to regional requirements and market trends.
Environmental and Sustainability Commitment
The facility incorporates sustainable design principles, including LED lighting, smart HVAC controls, and renewable energy sources. The building has achieved LEED Silver certification, reflecting our commitment to environmental responsibility.
The center implements green laboratory practices, including proper disposal of test components and recycling of equipment. Environmental monitoring systems track energy consumption and waste generation to continuously improve sustainability performance.
Looking Forward
The Shanghai technical center represents LiTong's commitment to supporting customers throughout the entire product development cycle, from initial concept through production ramp. By bringing technical expertise closer to manufacturing centers, we can respond more quickly to customer needs and provide more effective support for time-critical design challenges.
Building on this success, LiTong plans to open additional technical centers in Bangalore, India, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to further expand our global technical support network. These additions will help us serve the growing electronics manufacturing base in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
We invite customers in the Asia-Pacific region to visit our new facility and take advantage of our enhanced technical support capabilities. Our application engineering team looks forward to partnering on your next design challenge.
